The Melbourne School District welcomes Taryn Hames to the faculty of Melbourne Elementary School. Mrs. Hames, who is teaching 5th grade, is certified in all subject areas for Pre-K through 6th grades, and literacy through the 12th grade.
Taryn graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 2003 and enrolled at Ozarka College where she earned an Associate of Arts in Teaching. She then transferred to Lyon College where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Psychology in 2008; she completed a Master of Education degree in Reading in 2012 from Harding University.
Her teaching career started after graduating from Lyon College, teaching 4th-6th grade science/social studies at Cushman Elementary School for a year before transitioning to West Magnet in Batesville where she taught for two years after the two schools combined. After her time at West, she was employed by the Batesville School District as a Reading Specialist for four years.
Appropriately, her favorite quote is, “The more that you read, the more things that you know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go.” –Dr. Seuss. Mrs. Hames says that her favorite book to read is “the Bible, or anything by Nicholas Sparks.” Her favorite song Blessings by Laura Story, and when it comes to hobbies she says, “I love to read, cook, shop, travel, and spend time with my family.”
When asked about her educational philosophy, she quotes Teddy Roosevelt, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care...”stating, “First and foremost, I must genuinely love my students and show them I care for them before I can truly teach them anything and expect them to learn.” Her favorite part about teaching, “I love to see kids get excited about learning,” and admits the hardest part about teaching is “grading sooooo many papers.”
Taryn says she is married to her best friend, Camron Hames, for 9 years. “We have been together since high school. We have a 5 year old daughter, Maddie Beth who is in Kindergarten at MES, and a 16 month old little boy, Conway Hudson.”
