Welcome Back to MES!

August 14-18

We have had a great start to the 2017-18 school year.  It is rainy today, but that hasn't dampened our spirits inside.  Day 2 has been just as good as Day 1!

Please remember when entering the school grounds that it is now against the law to use a handheld device such as a cell phone when driving in a school zone when school is in session.  This means that in the mornings when you are bringing your child to school or in the afternoons when picking them up, you cannot talk on your phone once you turn off on our driveway.  Please abide by this law.  It is to protect our children.

We would like to have the student information packets back by this Friday, August 18.  I understand that it takes a long time to complete these and seems unnecessary to you.  However, this is important information that we are required to collect.  Also, it is so important that we have a good, working phone number and a correct address so that if something happens to your child, we can get in touch with you.

If you are having problems collecting all the school supplies give us a call.  We have had some very generous community helpers donate school supplies.  Just see Mrs. Becky, Mrs. Rachel or Mrs. Beth Cooper.

Lunch charges can be paid online at EZ SchoolPay.  This is available on our school website –

Each student received a handbook.  Those are for you to keep.  There is a section for the elementary students.  The district information is in the front of the book.  Please make sure you read the elementary section carefully, as some of our policies have changed.

One important change has to do with absences and tardies.  If a student arrives after 10:30 a.m. it is ½ day absent; if they leave before 1:30 it is a ½ day absent.  Students that arrive after 7:55 are considered tardy and if a student leaves after 2:00 p.m. to dismissal it is considered a tardy.  Five tardies will count as 1 absence.

Car line has gone extremely well.  I know that traffic gets congested.  We have lots of cars leaving at the same time, so patience is required.  Please remember that a child's life is not worth the extra 15 minutes.

In the morning if you will pull all the way up to where I stand, we can unload several cars at one time.  This will help with the morning traffic.

As I know most of you have heard or read, on Monday, August 21, we will have an eclipse.  I have read several articles about the dangers for small children if they look directly at the eclipse.  It will be very hard to make sure children are kept safe at this time if we take them outside.  We have made the decision that we will not go out to observe the eclipse. The teachers will gather information to share with their students and everyone will remain safe.  Thanks for understanding.

We are very proud to say that our enrollment at MES is up about 25 students from the end of school last year.  That makes me very proud that families see what a great facility we have, but more so, what a great group of teachers and staff we have.

You are welcome to come have lunch with your child. Please check in at the office and pick up a visitor's badge before you go to the lunchroom.  Adult lunches are $3.50 and you can pay Mrs. Becky when you check in and pick up your badge.  This year we will have a table where you and your child can eat.  Other students will need to remain with their classes.

Visitors should not go to the playground after lunch.

The MES Intramural games will begin on Tuesday, September 12 with K-3 playing.  On Tuesday, September 19, 4-6 will play.  After we see how many participants we have, we may combine and have all teams on the same night.  Those dates are September 26 and October 10, 17, and 24.

Kindergarten parents this is a reminder that snack milk is .35
